Velma “Imogene” Lenhart, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021, at her home with her family by her side at the age of 99.
She was born June 29, 1922 in Lima, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Hazel (Voltz) Sowards.
On December 23, 1939 in Columbia City, IN she married Lewis L. Lenhart Sr. who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Linda Renkert, Jane Kline, Cheryl Lenhart and Beverly (Dwight) Watkins; grandchildren, Michael (Kris) Renkert, Jeff (Angie) Renkert, Scott (Gina Rucker) Kline, Shelly (Rick) Chambers, Tonja (Ryan Hanson) Reed, Ty (Julie) Lenhart, Jennifer (Chad) Noble and Jeremy (Shari) Watkins; great grandchildren, Whitney (Cody Pugh) Renkert, Janalea (Dennis Hooker) Jones, Dylan Renkert, Sean (Gabi) Kline, Brandon (Tuff Varian) Kline, Nicole Chambers, Seth (Nikki) Chambers, Tristan Reed, Lauralea Lenhart, Cole, Kaydon and Slate Lenhart, Justin (Raechel) Noble, Jacob Noble, Shelby and Logan Watkins; great great grandchildren, Austyn, Amiah, Ayden, Axtyn Jones; Adelynne, Tharyn and Hudson Renkert; Brielle Kline; Camila and Zuri Kline; Jaxon and Kenzie Chambers; Alina, Jackson, Grant and Jameson Noble; Nash Pugh; Emma Hanson; sister, Dorothy Bennett; daughter-in-law, Judy Lenhart.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Lewis “Butch” Lenhart; grandson, Joshua Reed; her parents; siblings, Fanita Joseph and Miriam Lentz.
Imogene graduated from New Hampshire High School. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she played the piano, the organ and was a Sunday School Teacher. Imogene was also a member of UMW (United Methodist Women,) Rhoda Circle and a volunteer at Mary Rutan Hospital. She wor
ked at the Singer Sewing Store in Bellefontaine and later was a part owner in the Silver Thimble where she taught sewing classes. She loved to sew and cook, and spending time with her family. Her favorite time was around the holidays when she hosted her family and friends for meals. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will take place at noon Thursday, July 29, at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service.
