On a hot Friday afternoon at the Logan County Fair, four contestants tested their ice cream-making skills in the open class home goods ice cream freeze-off.
The categories were vanilla, chocolate, fruit, non-lactose, and ice cream with nuts. As the judges tasted each ice cream, the ladies waited in anticipation to hear which ice cream won each category.
The judges then went to finalize their decisions for best of show and reserve best of show.
The best of show ice cream was awarded to Karla Johnson for her vanilla ice cream entry. Joan Skidmore received the reserve award for her chocolate ice cream.
“I’ve been making ice cream for 15 years and showing at the fair for 13 of those,” Johnson said. “I can make just about any type of ice cream imaginable, but my favorite is probably the honey vanilla I made for today.”
