Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area about 12:30 a.m. on a report from a resident who said there was an unwanted intoxicated man on her property.
When deputies arrived, they found Smelcher laying in front of a parked vehicle and noted that he was “crying loudly.” While speaking with him, deputies observed that his speech was slurred. He initially told deputies that he lived at that address, but the property owner said she did not know him.
Smelcher attempted to contact his parents to arrange for a ride home, but could not reach them. He reportedly began to yell at deputies, stating that he could “walk home.”
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
