Interactive trainings open to community, promise eye-opening experience
To raise awareness and empathy, the United Way of Logan County is hosting a pair of interactive poverty simulations, putting on Think Tank, Inc.’s “Cost of Poverty Experience.”
There are two chances to attend:
• Tuesday, Feb. 1 —8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bellefontaine Grace Church; or
• Tuesday, March 15 — 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church.
Consider that 10 percent of Logan County families live in poverty. An additional 25 percent are employed, earning more than Federal Poverty guidelines, but less than the basic cost of living. One in three Logan County residents do not make ends meet.
Attendees will get a glimpse of what it’s like to live in the state of poverty and understand the strains it puts on all in Logan County through the simulation.
Cost is free to attend, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Register online at www.uwlogan.org (keyword POVERTY SIMULATION) or call (937) 592-2886.
