UNION COUNTY — The Union County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an armed robbery involving three male suspects that occurred Wednesday evening at a Milford Center business. Later that evening, the trio also allegedly led authorities on a high-speed chase along U.S. Route 33 toward Columbus.
About 7:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of an armed robbery at SG’s Market, 5 S. Mill St.
The 911 caller reported that three men entered the business wearing masks and hoodies and stated that one of the men displayed a silver and black handgun. Deputies and detectives responded to the business.
After allegedly taking money from a cash register and bank bag, the three suspects reportedly ran from the store and into an alley behind the business. Preliminary investigation revealed that approximately $2,000 was stolen during the robbery.
About 8 p.m., a deputy stopped a 2012 Honda Accord near the intersection of U.S. Route 42 and State Route 161. During the stop, it was determined that the vehicle and the occupants were the suspects from the Milford Center robbery.
The driver was identified and removed from the vehicle, and a loaded handgun magazine was recovered from his pants pocket.
The driver refused to comply with the deputy’s orders and he reportedly ran back to the vehicle and fled the scene.
Authorities pursued the suspect vehicle along U.S. 33 eastbound, where speeds reached up to 100 mph.
The pursuit was terminated at U.S. 33 and Interstate 270.
Union County deputies were assisted by officers of the Dublin Police Department and Plain City Police Department.
