Trestin D.D. Hoffer, 32, of 824 Euclid St., was charged with theft after he allegedly stole a bag of chips and an energy drink from Marathon Gas Station, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., around 9:50 p.m. Saturday.
At 1 a.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department met store staff and learned video surveillance shows the suspect shoving the merchandise into his pants and walking out without paying. One of the employees followed him and took photographs of the license plate on his car.
Hoffer reportedly became aggressive towards the employee.
Officers interviewed Hoffer at his residence Sunday night and he denied entering the store. Officers noted he had recently shaved but missed a spot under his left jaw line.
On Monday, officers were able to view the surveillance video and confirmed Hoffer was inside the convenience store. The video also showed him concealing merchandise in his pants.
He was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Matthew D. Moore, 29, of 311 S. Carlisle St., was charged Tuesday with felony theft.
At 4:45 p.m., police were notified Moore had fled Walmart, 2281 S. Main St., with a book bag filled with more than $1,000 in digital video discs. He drove northbound on Main Street in a red sport utility vehicle and was stopped near Washington Avenue.
He denied stealing any merchandise but officers observed the book bag on a back seat.
He claimed the bag did not belong to him.
An officer traveled to the store and reviewed surveillance video. It reportedly confirmed it showed Moore inside the store concealing DVDs into a book bag.
He was taken into custody and lodged in jail.
Man ignores orders to leave property
Shawn Stevens, 25, of 11240 State Route 117, Belle Center, was arrested Monday for criminal trespassing after entered the Honda Training Facility, 20 Hunter Place, around 6:20 a.m.
He was not part of the training group and was instructed by employees and officers to leave the property.
He complied but immediately walked back onto the property multiple times before he was taken into custody and lodged in jail.
