Turgut Y. Alper passed away peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2020, in his home in Bellefontaine, one month shy of his 76th birthday.
Turgut was born June 17, 1944 in Istanbul, Turkey, to Mebruke Fatma and Muammer Mehmet Alper.
He spent his childhood and early life in Istanbul, playing soccer and spending his days at the Marmara Sea. Shortly after marrying his wife, Nuray Alper, on Dec. 27, 1969, they immigrated to the United States and started a family in Evansville, Ind. Together, they raised their son, Murat; and daughter, Ozlem. They were married for 50 years. Turgut worked many years in the tool and die industry in Indiana and Ohio. His true love and devotion in life was his family. Being with family was his heart. His playful and charming spirit touched all who knew him. He loved fishing, wood working, the sea, having tea and meals with family and friends, and being a silly grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Nuray; his son, Murat; his daughter, Ozlem; his granddaughter, Sarila; his grandsons, Kyden and Kaleb; his sister, Muammer; and many extended family members and friends.
There will be a celebration of life with intimate family at a later time. His ashes will be spread in the Marmara Sea, and at his family’s final resting place in Turkey.
