There was no slowing down for Triad’s Jacob Thompson at the Division III district wrestling tournament over the weekend.
Thompson kept his perfect record intact by winning the 170-pound title Saturday at Troy.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class earned berths to the Division III state tournament this weekend in Columbus.
Mechanicsburg won the district championship with 192.5 points. Dayton Christian was second with 139 points and Miami East came in third with 87.5 points.
A standout for the Cardinals, Thompson had been to the district tournament before. However, he had been unable to break through with a state berth.
Boasting an undefeated record that now sits at 35-0 and a sectional championship, Thompson was in a good position to advance.
“I felt pretty confident going in to the district meet,” said Thompson. “If I went in like I’ve been training, I knew I would get the job done.
“I really didn’t change my mindset and the personal goal to come out as a champion. I hadn’t experienced the relief of making state, so I was still hungry and wanting that gold.”
