There are more than 20,000 registered voters in Logan County, but a vast majority do not participate in the primary system.
“Across the nation, seven out of every 10 registered voters consider themselves an independent and don’t take part in the primaries,” said Jim Burkholder, a board member of the Top of Ohio Patriots. “I think they don’t understand the historical importance of participating in the primary system.”
Mr. Burkholder and his fellow board members are encouraging members to reach out to friends and neighbors who are not affiliated with a party and encourage them to join in the primary process, especially this year.
“We want them to play a role in the process and we’re not out there trying to tell them who to vote for,” he said. “We just want them to help pick the candidate they feel best represents their views.”
