Chiefs lose heartbreaker
Bellefontaine’s boys soccer team suffered a heartbreaking tournament loss to host Milton-Union on Monday.
The game was tied at 1-1 after regulation and remained knotted up after two overtime periods.
That brought out a penalty kick shootout, with Milton-Union prevailing 5-4 to get the victory.
“The way the guys played tonigh was outstanding,” said BHS coach Jeff Turner. “It isn’t fun to lose, but they have nothing to hang their head about. The seniors ended with a loss, but they gained everyone’s respect that watched the game.”
The Chiefs end their season with a 9-4-4 record.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead with a goal less than eight minutes into the game.
Bellefontaine answered with a goal on a direct kick from Beau Salyer with 17 minutes left in the first half.
Neither team could find the net again through the second half and the two overtime sessions.
M-Union converted five of their penalty kicks compared to four for the Chiefs.
