West Liberty-Salem Middle School seventh-grader Caleb Hershberger, right, won his school’s National Geographic Geo Bee Jan. 11, and the runner-up was eighth-grader Kendall LeVan, left. Nine students in grades fifth through eight earned spots in the Geo Bee after being selected as top competitors against members of their individual classes. The National Geographic Geo Bee is in its 31st year and awards students from all over the country with scholarships and other opportunities for winners at the regional and state level. Caleb will complete in an online qualifying test that is submitted to the National Geographic Society to determine his eligibility to compete at the state level.
