It was a big night for local drivers Saturday as three area racers came away with feature wins at Shady Bowl Speedway.
Rushsylvania’s Matthew Parsons won the late models, Quincy’s Ross Klingelhofer took first in the modified feature and Belle Center’s Austin Eaton won the compacts.
The late model feature started Saturday’s racing and saw Parsons come away as the big winner of the 35-lap race. He fended off runner-up Don Mahaffey Jr., who was also the fast qualifier. Jim Lewis Jr. was third, Tyler Mahaffey was fourth and Josh Smith took fifth. Ryan Fleming won the dash and Curtis Noble was the heat winner.
Klingelhofer was up next in the 30-lap modified feature. He survived a spin and crash to come away with his first feature win of the season. Finishing second through fifth were Brad Yelton, Chad Poole, Logan McPherson and Jerry Stapleton. The dash went to Buck Purtee, the fast qualifier was Chris Parker with the heats going to Yelton and Mike Carroll.
The compact feature was next with 35 cars racing with an A and B main. The top four finishers in the B main moved on to the A main. Aaron Jewell and Nick Glasgow won the B mains.
The A main saw Eaton pull out a dramatic finish as he rallied late to take the win. Mike Wintrow took second, Corey Plunkett was third, Tony Heath was fourth and Jimmy McElfresh was fifth.
Urban’s Andy Pine took home top honors in the thunder cars feature. He set the fast time and grabbed the lead during the feature on Lap 17 and would go on to win.
Rounding out the top five were Alan Lambert, Frankie Oakes, Patrick Woods and Scottie Marquis, who also was the heat winner. Scott Drake won the dash.
The powder puff compacts rounded out the night. Hannah Behnke dominated the field of 16 drivers to take first. Rebecca Swindler was runner-up, Amanda Butler took third, Brittany Broxterman was fourth and Samantha Klein came in fifth.
Racing returns to Shady Bowl Speedway on Saturday where it will be Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club night. All D.A.R.F. members will be admitted for half price with a valid D.A.R.F. card and is only good for the grandstands.
