Thousands of dollars and over a dozen grams of drugs were recovered Monday following a traffic stop executed by officers of the Washington Township Police Department.
Law enforcement initiated a traffic stop about 5:58 p.m. of a vehicle in the area of eastbound U.S. Route 33 and Lincoln Boulevard driven by Ashley Lunsford, 31, of Dayton, on a violation for impeding traffic. Upon making contact with the driver, and a passenger, Roger Blassfield, 34, of Dayton, officers report an odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
A search of the car turned up marijuana and 13 grams of psilocybin mushrooms located on the floorboard. In the trunk, officers located $7,558 in cash in a bag.
Both suspects were taken into custody. En route to the jail, Lunsford complained of an asthma attack. She was transported by Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, Lunsford advised squad members she had MDMA “Molly” and acid strips concealed in a body cavity.
After she was released from the hospital, Lunsford was lodged in Logan County Jail and charged with trafficking in drugs, four counts of felony possession of drugs and tampering with evidence.
Blassfield was charged with possession of drugs. The Russell’s point police department assisted.
Lunsford had allegedly attempted to conceal narcotics during her initial transport to the jail. Washington Township officers noted that jail staff would have assuredly recovered the drugs thanks to the office’s new body scanner, which checks inmates for contraband during the check-in process.
Officers warn arrested individuals about the body scanner and offer the lesser charge of possession in the field, as opposed to conveyance of drugs into a detention facility.
