JASON VOGEL |
When Jason Vogel stood to start his Not So Bad Art By Good People fundraiser project for the Logan County Art League, he hit a roadblock almost immediately when he approached a canvas with paint, and so he took a seat instead.
He purchased a stool at the Bellefontaine Antique Mall, and with paints purchased from Craft, Paper, Scissors, he created what he calls the Seat of Peace and Friendship.
“I wanted to honor our Native Americans. Recently, I have read a couple of books on the plight of Native North Americans and felt an inspiration to reflect some of their beliefs in a piece of ‘art’,” said the estimator/project manager with Reliant Mechanical.
He stripped off about four coats of paint from the stool and sanded it smooth before painting it and adding various symbols on the round seat and on the legs.
“The broken arrows symbolize peace and the crossed arrows symbolize friendship,” he explained. The designs with color on the stool are of my own creation; I tried to paint designs similar to what Native Americans may have had on their lodges and shields. I also included the symbols for good, good luck and happy on the stool.”
