Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating an 8 p.m. assault Monday in which a 17-year-old girl was attacked by a named female suspect outside Community Markets, 309 N. Main St.
The victim had just finished a work shift at the store and was confronted by a group of teens as she began to walk home. The suspect struck the victim several times, lacerating her forehead.
She was able to break away and run home a few blocks away from the store.
A Bellefontaine squad responded to her home to assess the injury.
Vandals set fire in park restroom
Officers and firefighters with the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department responded at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday to a public bathroom at Mary Rutan Park, 501 E. Williams Ave., after resident walking his dog reported smoke coming from the building.
A fire had been set in a trash can inside the women’s restroom using paper towels. Paper towel also were strewn about the room and into the toilets.
A damaged paper towel dispenser was found in the men’s restroom.
Suspect lodged on felony warrant
Michael A. Craig, 43, at large, was picked up Tuesday on a felony warrant.
He was spotted outside Village Pantry, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., at 4 p.m., talking with another man.
Observing officers approaching in cruisers, he entered the convenience store. He was found just inside the door along with his possessions.
A purple container, he claimed to have found in the bathroom, contained a pipe for abusing methamphetamine.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail on the warrant and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
