Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a 19-year-old was arrested Thursday near the post office in Rushsylvania on a 36-count warrant for charges that include nine counts of first-degree felony rape.
Jacob Smith of Rushsylvania was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
The warrant also included the following charges: nine counts of assault, first-degree misdemeanor; one count of unlawful restraint, first-degree misdemeanor; one count of extortion, third-degree felony; four counts of gross sexual imposition, fourth-degree felony; one count of public indecency, first degree misdemeanor; one count of voyeurism, first-degree misdemeanor; six counts menacing by stalking, fourth-degree felony; one count telecommunication harassment, first-degree misdemeanor; one count of pandering sexually-oriented matter, fourth-degree felony; two count menacing, fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Deputies report the investigation began after a rape was reported to the sheriff’s office in December 2019. After investigating the first report and a warrant being issued, other victims started to come forward reporting similar crimes.
After months of investigating, the 36-count Logan County Juvenile Court warrant was issued. The alleged crimes started while Smith was a juvenile.
All the sexual-related crimes involved victims between the ages of 15 to 17.
