Bellefontaine Middle School eighth-grader Anthony Sylvia correctly spelled “swankiest” in the 12th round of the BMS spelling bee to become the champion of the annual contest hosted Tuesday.
Classmate Max Fissel was runner-up. A total of 26 students in grades 6-8 competed in the bee, which was recorded by WBCS this year.
Both Anthony and Fissel have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee, slated for 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at Riverside Schools.
Also during January, Anthony will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee. He is a son of Bryce Sylvia and Crystal Lopez.
Max is a son of Mark and Stephanie Fissel.
Julie Kurtz was the moderator at BMS. Whitney Stolly was the judge.
Earlier this fall, Blakely Vollrath won the spelling bee at Bellefontaine Intermediate School.
