Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Bellefontaine Fire and EMS responded about midnight Tuesday to the eastbound U.S. Route 33 rest area on a report of a man in the restroom who was unresponsive.
Jason A. McFarland, 42, of Columbus, was found by deputies slumped over in a bathroom stall and he did not appear to be breathing, deputies said. A woman who had been with McFarland told deputies that he had just done heroin.
The woman reportedly had administered one dose of Narcan to McFarland, and another dose of Narcan was found at the scene, possibly administered by her or another bystander, deputies said.
Deputies began CPR and EMS personnel also arrived on the scene. McFarland was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies also located a syringe containing a clear fluid at the scene. Investigation continues.
