Thomas Bernat, 48, of that address, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was located in a back bedroom of the residence.
A home health care nurse had been at the home that morning to care for the property owner, Robert Longo, and noticed a foul odor while she was there. At that time, she went into Bernat’s bedroom and found that he was deceased.
Next to Bernat, deputies observed drug paraphernalia items on a paper plate, along with two uncapped syringes.
Longo told deputies that Bernat had lived at the residence for awhile, but said they rarely speak. He had last seen Bernat Tuesday evening.
The Logan County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene. Bernat’s body was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital.
