Matthew D. Miranda, 30, of 8573 State Route 366, lot 17, Lewistown, was charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle, along with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, during an incident Friday morning.
Township Road 94, Lewistown, in reference to a vehicle that had crashed off the road. A witness reported observing the driver passed out behind the wheel of the vehicle.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said Miranda had mud and grass all over his legs and shoes, and reported that the pickup he was operating had sustained significant damage, including scrapes and dents along the driver’s side and pieces of wood and brush sticking out from the pickup, appearing that the vehicle previously had been wrecked into some trees. The tailgate also was broken and unable to be closed properly.
Miranda reportedly told deputies he had been using methamphetamine the previous evening and had stolen the pickup. He agreed to submit to field sobriety tests.
The registered owner of the vehicle then arrived on the scene and provided a statement for deputies. He said Miranda was unknown to him.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a urine test, with results pending. He also was cited for driving without a license, failure to control and no seat belt.
• Stephen L. Repass, 51, of 234 E. Harrison St., lot E13, Lakeview, was charged with theft and criminal trespass after an incident Friday morning.
Deputies received a report about 8:10 a.m. regarding an attempt theft from Lima Street in Lakeview. Benjamin Spees reported to deputies that his neighbor had chased off a man attempting to haul away his boat trailer from his property.
The neighbor was able to identify the suspect as Repass, and deputies spoke with the defendant later that afternoon at his residence. Repass told deputies that a man named “Darryl” had sold him the boat trailer for $50 on a previous day and went to retrieve the boat Friday.
Saturday, Repass was placed under arrest and was transported to the jail.
• Linzie J. Neeley, 27, of 15616 State Route 720, Lakeview, was charged with OVI during a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 235 near Township Road 93 about 12:15 a.m. observed a speed violation with her vehicle and initiated the stop.
While speaking with the driver, Neeley, deputies observed an odor of alcoholic beverage and asked her to step out of the vehicle. She told deputies she had consumed part of one mixed drink that evening and she submitted to field sobriety testing.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where she submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.169 blood alcohol content. She also was cited for speed and was released to a sober driver.
Man charged with assault after campground incident
Bobby G. Smith, 43, of Vandalia, was charged with assault and aggravated menacing related to an incident Saturday at Creek Park Campground, 11042 Pocahontas Path, Lakeview.
Deputies, along with Washington Township Police Department, Russells Point Police Department and Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers, and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, responded to the campground about 9:45 p.m. on a report of a fight reportedly involving between 10 to 15 people.
Upon arrival, deputies said the parties involved had been separated. Five individuals at lot 42 told deputies that Smith, who was staying at lot 41, kept walking over to their camp site and he was told to leave. A fight then reportedly broke out between Smith and another male subject.
During the confrontation, Smith allegedly picked up a chair and threw it, striking a 26-year-old woman in the head. Indian Lake EMS checked her injuries at the scene. The defendant also allegedly threw a beer bottle at the 26-year-old’s mother.
The group told deputies that Smith then went back to his camper and brought back a steak knife, and make threats while waving it. Deputies found a steak knife located just inside Smith’s camper by an open door.
The defendant was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
