Justin D. Stidam, 26, of 4676 County Road 55, Bellefontaine, was charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle Sunday.
Deputies received a report of stolen vehicle about 9 p.m. from Stidam’s grandmother, who said Stidam did not have permission to drive her Dodge Avenger SXT, but he took the vehicle anyway.
Deputies were informed that the vehicle had been located at 117 W. Brown Ave., Bellefontaine, and that the vehicle had front-end damage. Deputies spoke with the defendant at that address.
Stidam told deputies he had taken his grandmother’s vehicle that day to look at air conditioning units. He stated he let another named male suspect drive her vehicle and that the other individual had struck a parked vehicle in Urbana.
Deputies also were contacted by Urbana Police Department officers regarding the hit/skip crash.
The defendant was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Weapons charge also issued during OVI stop
Roger L. Lattimer, 56, of 4000 Alpine Parkway, lot U2, Zanesfield, was charged with having weapons under disability during a traffic stop late Friday evening.
Deputies received a report about 11:55 p.m. regarding Lattimer leaving on residence on County Road 5 while intoxicated and that he was possibly in possession of a handgun.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle in the area of State Route 47 and stopped the vehicle on north Detroit Street near the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Deputies told the driver, Lattimer, not to touch the firearm in the vehicle. He reportedly placed a handgun on the dashboard of the vehicle. Deputies were able to secure the weapon.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies observed an odor of alcohol on his breath. He told deputies that he had consumed between 8 to 10 beers and said he “probably should not” be driving. Lattimer refused to submit to field sobriety tests.
He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to take a breath test.
Deputies said he also had prior convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol an/or drugs from 2016, 2009, 1996 and 1990. A report has been forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for OVI and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
• Enrique Marquez, 28, of Lima, was charged with OVI and was cited for reckless operation on private property as a result of an incident about 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies responded to a report of a possible drunk driver who got his vehicle stuck on a railroad tie and a parking block behind Froggy’s at the Lake, 11065 Township Road 293, Lakeview. The driver also nearly struck a pedestrian who was walking his dog, witnesses reported.
Deputies observed that the driver, Marquez, was unsteady on his feet and his reaction time was slow. He told deputies he had consumed several alcoholic beverages.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where he refused to submit to a breath test.
• Eric L. Lochtefeld, 54, of 14044 Seminole Path, Lakeview, was charged with OVI, possession of marijuana and open container in a motor vehicle during a traffic stop about 8:05 p.m. Friday.
Deputies initiated the stop with his vehicle in the area of Hiawatha Path near Blue Jacket Path for a turn signal and lane violation.
Deputies said the driver showed signs of impairment and they observed that he had placed a paper towel roll over a cup in the center console. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies found that the cup contained an alcoholic beverage and also located three suspected marijuana blunts inside the center console.
He was transported to the jail, where he refused to take a urine test. The defendant was released to a sober driver and was also cited for left of center and a turn signal violation.
• Dillon A. Linkenhoker, 27, of 429 Kent Drive, Apt. 16, Bellefontaine, was charged with OVI as a result of an incident about 11:20 p.m. Friday.
Deputies responded to the area of 10706 T.R. 293, Lakeview, on a report of a vehicle that had driven up on some rocks by a driveway and had become stuck.
While speaking with Linkenhoker, deputies observed signs of impairment, and he submitted to field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.174 blood alcohol content. He was released to a sober driver.
Motorcyclist transported from S.R. 366 crash
Jeffrey S. Stickler, 51, of Union, was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in a crash about 6:05 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound motorcycle on State Route 366 approaching State Route 235 when he lost control and the motorcycle went onto its side on the roadway.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. He was cited for failure to control and damage was light to the motorcycle.
