Cody S. Coil, 25, of 421 West St., Apt. 3, was charged with possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana as a result of an incident early Monday morning.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol in the area of Ludlow Road and Colton Avenue about 1:40 a.m. observed Coil walking along Colton Avenue and recognized him from interaction with Coil earlier in the evening.
Officers stopped to talk with him again and he told officers he did not have anything illegal on his person. During a pat down search, officers located a white rock-like substance folded inside a dollar bill from his pocket. Coil stated the substance would test positive for cocaine.
In addition, officers located a small baggie of marijuana in his jacket pocket. The defendant was placed in the rear of the patrol car, and officers observed the sound of a metallic object hitting the floor. Officers searched the area under his feet and located a metal crack pipe.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Driver charged with OVI
Terry Hecht, 55, of 400 W. Sandusky Ave., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for no brake lights during a traffic stop late Friday evening.
Officers on patrol in the area of Ludlow Road and Eastern Avenue about 11:55 p.m. observed that his vehicle did not have working brake lights. The vehicle then turned from Ludlow Road onto Heritage Drive and the stop was initiated on Madison Court.
While speaking with Hecht, officers observed an odor of alcohol on his breath. He submitted to field sobriety tests and later told officers that he had consumed two beers several hours ago.
He was transported to the police department, where he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.109 blood alcohol content. He was issued his citations and was released to a sober individual.
15-year-old charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
Keaton M. Stachler, 15, 104 Organ St., was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was cited for no operator’s license and driving without headlights as a result of a Friday evening traffic stop.
Officers on patrol in the area of Washington Avenue about 11:15 p.m. observed a westbound car driving without its headlights activated. The vehicle turned onto Ludlow Road and still did not turn on its headlights.
While speaking with the driver, Keaton, officers confirmed that he only had his learner’s permit and did not have his driver’s license. Officers contacted the teen’s father, who advised that Keaton did not have permission to use the vehicle. A report will be forwarded to the Logan County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
Teens facing charges after fight at school
Joplyn Blosser, 17, of 226 W. Brown Ave., and Anesia Johnson, 16, of 709 Heritage Drive, each are facing disorderly conduct charges related to an incident during lunchtime at the Bellefontaine High School cafeteria Feb. 18.
The school resource officer was notified to respond to the cafeteria about 11:10 a.m. in reference to a fight between two students. When the officer arrived, he noticed multiple clumps of hair on the floor that had been pulled out during the fight.
Joplyn and Anesia both had been detained following the fight. The officer and school officials reviewed video surveillance of the incident, where both girls reportedly were observed throwing punches and grabbing each other’s hair.
Anesia had sustained a raised mark on her forehead and was bleeding from the bridge of her nose and was treated by the school nurse. Joplyn did not report any injuries. The teens’ parents were advised of the situation.
