Kara C. Rowe, 32, of 422 Miami Ave., Russells Point, was charged with theft and possession of drug abuse instruments Friday after a theft report was filed at her work place, Village Pantry, 209 Orchard Island Road, Russells Point.
Deputies responded Friday to the gas station to speak with the store manager, who reported that a customer had left his wallet at the business Jan. 26 after he paid for items at the store.
The customer, James Francis of Lewistown, returned to the store to report his wallet missing. Ms. Rowe had been the cashier for his transaction, and she claimed she had not seen his wallet. However, when Mr. Francis told her he was going to contact law enforcement, she located the wallet near a restroom.
After reviewing store video surveillance, Ms. Rowe was observed taking the wallet from a counter. Mr. Francis said $15 was missing from the wallet.
The defendant was transported to the Logan County Jail, where a syringe and another drug abuse instrument was found in her bag.
Intoxicated man found near Mad River
Daniel K. Shumaker, 57, of 101 Torrence St., Bellefontaine, was charged with disorderly conduct after an incident early Sunday morning.
Deputies responded to the area of county roads 1 and 5 about 1 a.m. on a report of a man who had fallen into the Mad River and was now lying in a ditch.
Deputies observed that Mr. Shumaker’s clothing was wet and muddy and that he smelled of alcohol.
He told deputies he had walked from a friend’s residence and was looking for U.S. Route 33. He was transported to the jail.
• Chris Usas, 52, of 501 Cretcher St., Lot 8, DeGraff, was charged with disorderly conduct following an incident early Monday morning.
Deputies responded to Cretcher Street about 2:10 a.m. on a report from a neighbor who said Mr. Usas was outside yelling. The defendant reportedly would not calm down once deputies arrived, and he displayed signs of intoxication.
He was placed under arrest, and en route to the jail, he made threats against the deputy who was transporting him.
