Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities clients who are trained in self-advocacy are STIR-ring others to speak for themselves.
Trainers Ty Ferguson and Junior Baker offered the Ohio Self Determination Association’s Project STIR, Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility, workshop recently at the Hilliker YMCA.
Attendees from Logan and Shelby counties learned about rights and responsibilities, more about one’s self, communicating respectfully but assertively, problem solving and negotiating, advocacy, self-determination, and being more involved in the world. The two-day session featured several activities and skits that required the participants to present in front of the group and articulate their needs and wants.
