BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) — A prosecutor in Ohio says a State Highway Patrol trooper accused of causing a head-on crash that killed the other vehicle’s driver has been charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.
Clermont County’s prosecutor says Ohio trooper Jeremy Ault was indicted this week on the misdemeanor charges in the crash that killed 36-year-old Anthony Bertram, of Goshen. The collision occurred Jan. 4 in the southwestern Ohio village of Batavia.
Authorities reported the 22-year-old trooper’s patrol car crossed the center line and struck Bertram’s pickup. Bertram died at the scene. Ault was seriously injured.
Investigators say it was raining when the crash occurred.
Court records don’t list an attorney for Ault. No publicly listed phone number could be found for him.
The patrol has said he is on occupational injury leave.
