Deondre Wilgus, the son of the victim’s girlfriend Amber Wilgus, was charged today with murder.
Det. Ron Jordan of the Springfield Police Department would not comment on the motive for the shooting.
He said the 18-year-old became a suspect soon after the shooting and investigative work developed more details about the slaying at 639 E. Southern Ave., the Wilgus home.
The suspect reported to the police department with his attorney, Michael Edwards, and talked with detectives prior to his arrest.
He was lodged in the Clark County Jail.
The mother and son formerly lived in Bellefontaine and the victim was convicted here of possession of crack cocaine.
He was sentenced in 2014 to 10 months in prison after an appearance in the Logan County Common Pleas Court.
The victim was found around 10:15 p.m. on the kitchen floor after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and neck.
He was transported from the scene to the Springfield Regional Medical Center where he died.
Det. Jordan said the case will go to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office which will present it to a grand jury, possibly within two weeks.
