Greenon has Tigers’ sole attention

New faces but familiar results have guided West Liberty-Salem to a sparkling start to the football season.

Younger and inexperienced players were asked to step up this season for the Tigers, and they have done exactly that.

WL-Salem has surged forward each week and now is prepared for league newcomer Greenon at home on Friday in an Ohio Heritage Conference game that kicks off at 7 p.m.

The Tigers are off to a 4-0 start, including a 2-0 mark in the league. They have also earned a spot in the Division VI state poll.

“The guys have been buying into doing things the right way,” said WL-Salem head coach Dan McGill. “We challenge them to have a desire to be coached and corrected so that collectively we are able to accomplish our goals.

WL-Salem is currently ranked 11th in Division VI state poll and is fourth in Region 24 in the computer rankings.

“We haven’t talked about it at all with the guys,” said McGill of their state ranking. “We are aware that while it is nice to be well thought of by those outside the program, it is much more important for us inside the program to stay focused on the task at hand.”
