Shady Bowl Speedway dodges weather, gets second night of racing in

A full field of stock cars treated racing fans to a night of speed at Shady Bowl Speedway Saturday. In a season dominated by weather, the hillside oval got in only its second program of the season. The pit area was full and the fans were as charged up as the drivers.

Late models started off Saturday’s action with a field of 18 drivers. Buddy Townsend jumped out in front at the start of the race and held off fast qualifier Matt Parsons for the win. Josh Smith, Don Mahaffey Jr. and Jim Lewis Jr. filled out the top five finishers. Scott Drake won the dash, while Brian Brandyberry and Tyler Mahaffey earned the heat wins.

Buddy Townsend was the winner of the Dave Nagel Exvavating Late Model feature

Bill Burba set a torrid pace in the modified feature and coasted to another feature win. Chris Parker, Buddy Townsend, Greg Stapleton and fast qualifier Brad Yelton rounded out the top five. Gregg Jackson was the dash winner with Burba and Ralph Harrod taking the heat wins.
