Riverside’s girls basketball team found itself playing catch up early against visiting Mechanicsburg on Monday as the Indians used a big first quar- ter to grab a 63-32 non-league victory.
The Pirates slide to 12-8 on the season as the Indians move to 14-8.
“Mechanicsburg is a really good team,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “Their aggressive, physical defense gave us trouble all night. We had 35 turnovers and it’s hard to win games against any team when turning the ball over that much, let alone a really good team like Mechanicsburg.
“We have a lot of room for improvement. The most encouraging part of the night was when we took care of the ball, we played and competed with a really good team. It’s a good learning moment for us as we approach the last two games of our season and the tournament.”
