Riverside girls strike early to bounce Ansonia in non-league game

Riverside’s girls basketball team got off to a fast start and that propelled the Pirates to a 55-54 non-league win over Ansonia on Saturday.

The win improves the Pirates to 12-7 and clinches the program’s first winning season in nine years (2009-2010), according to head coach Bryce Hodge.

Riverside raced out to a 13-2 lead to end the first quarter. The Pirates edged the Tigers 14-13 in the second quarter to carry a 27- 15 advantage into halftime.
