Gordon helps Sidney pull away from Chieftains in opener

With one of the shortest teams Bellefontaine has ever put on the court, it is going to take a recipe of hustle and grit to win games this season.

The Chiefs were not lacking fight in the season opener Tuesday against Sidney, but in the end, a talented Yellow Jackets squad led by Virginia Tech-bound guard Andre Gordon was too much to overcome.

Gordon scored 13 of his game-high 21 points after halftime as the visiting Yellow Jackets pulled away for a 67-52 non-league victory.

“I felt pretty good about the entire effort tonight,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Calton. “This is a gritty group. That’s what we hang our hat on. Our program is not going to crank out a lot of 6-7 or 6-9 guys, but we do produce a lot of gritty guys that know their roles.”
