Bellefontaine’s Riley Wilcoxon closed out a strong golf season at the Division I district tournament Thursday at Beavercreek Golf Club.
The junior shot an 87 to finish in the middle of the field.
The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament next weekend in Columbus.
Lakota East won the district championship with 312, Mason was runner-up with 315 and St. Xavier was third with 316.
Wilcoxon carded a 46 on the front and had a 41 on the back. That score was good enough to rank him 48th out of 96 golfers.
“Riley got off to a rough start but I couldn’t be more proud of him for how he responded and battled back,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason
Steider. “It was a very challenging day with the cold and windy conditions on a big stage. Riley played with a good group of players with one (Tyler Goeke from Dayton Carroll) advancing to state.
“I know he feels he left some shots out there but to respond and play with a great attitude today when not everything was going his way was a testament to how great of a kid he is.”
Troy’s Holden Scriber, Carroll’s Tyler Goecke and Butler’s Austin Greaser all shot 74s to claim the three individual state berths.
