Shady Bowl Speedway closed out its 2020 season Saturday with the third running of the Clunker Classic.
The night’s action included a variety of non-traditional races, including a trailer race, a Crown Vic Series race and a 300-lap enduro.
In the Crown Vic race, a total of eight cars took to the track in the 20-lap event. Buck Purtee and Gavin Wilcoxon were involved in a jolting crash that left both cars unable to continue. Curtis Noble emerged as the winner. Jimmy McElfresh was second, Tyler Brandyberry took third, Nate Wilcoxon finished fourth and Mick Zile was fifth.
In the enduro race, Ryan Barrett outlasted the field to get the win and a $3,000 prize. Nick Barrett was second, Zach Beaty-Lakins was third, Bobby Terry finished fourth and Jason Shaw finished fifth.
The flag pole race followed, which saw cars leaving the pavement for a loop on the grass. Ryan Barrett finished in first and Nick Barrett was second. James Chatterton finished third.
Next, the crowd was treated to the skid plate race in which the rear tires were removed and replaced with steel plates. Kenny Snyder won the race. Ryan Barrett was second and Nick Barrett took third.
In another entertaining event, the chain race featured two cars being chained together, with the lead car having a throttle but no brakes and the rear car having brakes but no throttle. Tyler Mahaffey and Ryan Barrett teamed up for the win. Nick Barrett and Chris Prater finished second and Kenny George and Scottie Marquis took third.
Rounding out the night was the trailer race. Ben O’Reilly finished first, Nathan Kirby was second, Travis Irwin finished third, Bradon Fleming took fourth and Roger Eaton was fifth.
