Benjamin Logan Schools hosted a complimentary pre-program screening (lipid panel, blood pressure, and a full body composition) for staff as a prelude to wellness opportunities that are kicking off this month for a number of area school district personnel.
Deb Orr from Mary Rutan Hospital was on hand to conduct the pre-screening at the Ben Logan Central Office.
Through the support of the Logan County School Employees Consortium and Preferred Benefits, employees of participating districts Benjamin Logan Schools, Indian Lake Schools, Midwest Regional Educational Service Center and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center are able to participate in wellness opportunities funded through a grant received from Anthem, officials report.
During the spring, employees completed a wellness survey. Based on those results, the LCSEC will start by offering three activities that will be repeated at different locations. Participants are welcome to attend any and all locations and sessions.
Mary Rutan Hospital is offering a Creating a Healthy Me virtual program for seven weeks beginning Thursday, Oct. 29, and continuing through Dec. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. From their own homes, participants can journey through the program guided by registered dietitians, an exercise physiologist, and a registered nurse.
Participants receive a toolkit filled with resources and items to equip them for success. This is a $750 program value provided to LCSEC employees for only $10, which will be reimbursed upon completion of all classes. This program creates an opportunity for participants to interact virtually with others who are also working towards a healthier lifestyle.
In addition, Shawna Bensman from Collective Culture Yoga Studio guides participants through a six-week yoga experience that began Oct. 27. The class continues at 4 p.m. Tuesdays for five weeks at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center room 102A. Due to COVID restrictions, participants will need to take their own mat. All other equipment is provided, including straps, blocks, blanket and bolster.
Ragnar Fitness and Yoga also is offering its first ever Bootcamp Break Out program, beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Indian Lake Elementary.
Ragnar will offer fitness routines for LCSEC employees for a 35 to 45 minute session and the class meets once per week for six weeks, no experience necessary. Each week, instructors focus on functional movements to help burn calories and increase strength.
Take your own a mat or beach towel for floor work. All other equipment provided.
Karen Sorreles of the MRESC is the Wellness Coordinator for the Logan County Insurance Consortium. Each participating district has a wellness champion who will be available to help with information.
The Wellness Champions are: Benjamin Logan, Sally Stolly; Indian Lake, Rob Underwood; MRESC, Karen Sorreles; and Ohio Hi-Point, Rick Smith.
