Michael Golden, 23, Lewistown, was charged with possession of cocaine related to a traffic stop Wednesday evening.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department observed a Black Equinox with a defective loud exhaust and expired tags. They initiated a traffic stop for the violations on U.S. Route 33 near Sunnyside Avenue.
Golden was identified as the driver. He reportedly told officers he was coming from Taco Bell, despite the fact he was observed leaving a residential area. He continued to attempt to mislead officers and be evasive.
This led officers to believe Golden was under the influence of or in possession of drugs.
The defendant denied both and provided officers with consent to search his vehicle.
Officers located a small baggie with a white powdery substance rolled up inside his wallet. When officers asked Golden what was in the baggie, he stated it was cocaine and forgot it was in his wallet. The white powdery substance was field-tested and tested positive for cocaine.
The defendant was transported to the jail. Officers of the Washington Township Police Department assisted.
