Rushsylvania’s village council and Board of Public Affairs asked village superintendent Mike Hodge to present a spreadsheet of options regarding possible increases to sewer and water rates, Mayor Katrina Eversole reported from this week’s meeting.
“We are looking at both sides (water and wastewater), but no decisions have been made,” the mayor said. “We are just kind of looking at it right now.”
Mr. Hodge said at the March meeting that he would like the BPA and council to approve a new way of calculating utility bills that would charge residents based on their actual usage and eliminate the minimum usage charge.
He originally proposed a rate of 0.55 cents per gallon (or 55 cents per 100 gallons) of water used with a $12 maintenance fee. The current rate is $19 for a 2,000-gallon-per-month minimum and 0.25 cents per gallon (or 25 cents per 100 gallons) beyond 2,000.
Mr. Hodge, who said in March the water fund was operating at a 13 percent loss in 2015, agreed to compile a more detailed spreadsheet analysis of the proposal and present it at a future meeting.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This version of the story contains corrected per gallon rates for the proposal and current water bills.
