Harry O. Esquilin-Melendez, 32, of 302 Shady Lane Drive, was charged with felonious assault Sunday after he allegedly used a metal pipe to beat his roommate Brian R. Rosario during an 8:30 a.m. argument, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
The suspect acknowledged he and the victim began fighting and he grabbed the pipe during the altercation. He claimed he barely hit Rosario with the pipe.
Rosario sustained facial and rib injuries in the attack, officers report, and he was treated at the scene by Bellefontaine squad personnel. He declined transport to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment as he had no ride back to the apartment.
The suspect was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Alcohol charges filed in stops
Two men were charged Tuesday after a 12:30 p.m. traffic stop on north Main Street.
Sergio De La Cruz-Santes, 37, of 1509 S. Detroit St., Apt. B, faces a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and issued traffic citations for no operator’s license, weaving and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
Nicolas Castro-Luz, 26, of 115 W. Patterson Ave., was charged with public intoxication, officers report.
De La Cruz-Santes was driving southbound when an officer on patrol observed him weaving. Two open bottles of beer were observed in cupholders between the driver and his front passenger.
The motorist was instructed to exit the car and officers observed he was unsteady on his feet and his eyes were bloodshot and glossy. He refused to participate in field sobriety tests. The driver was taken into custody. He provided a urine sample for laboratory testing before he was released to his sister.
Castro-Luz was incapable of finding a ride home or caring for himself and he was lodged in jail.
• Marceline I. Trunck, 27, of Reynoldsburg, was charged Sunday with OVI after a 2:35 a.m. traffic stop and issued citations for speeding, traffic control device violations and failure to comply.
Emily A. Hildebrandt, 27, of 9715 Township Road 295, Quincy, was charged with public intoxication.
An officer on patrol observed an eastbound car fail to come to a complete stop for a red light on eastbound Chillicothe Avenue at Main Street as Trunck turned southbound.
She then accelerated to 38 mph in a 25-mph zone. The officer turned from northbound to catch up with Trunck. As she approached Lake Avenue, she changed lanes and nearly hit the curb along the side of the street. She then turned westbound on Lake and nearly hit an eastbound police cruiser.
At Lake and Detroit Street, the motorist failed to stop for a stop sign and an officer activated the overhead cruiser lights to initiate a traffic stop.
Trunck continued on until the officer sounded his siren. She pulled over west of County Road 18.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and noted Trunck handed over a debit card instead of her driver’s license.
Field sobriety tests indicated Trunck was under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody and she refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Hildebrandt was taken into custody after she began vomiting from the open doorway of her car. She was unable to find a ride home and was taken into custody.
Both women were lodged in jail.
• Gary A. Grieser, 51, of 219 Summit Drive, was charged with OVI and cited for driving the wrong way on a one-way street after a 1:35 a.m. traffic stop Saturday.
He was observed driving a car northbound on a one-way southbound section of Detroit Street before turning eastbound on Columbus Avenue.
Officers noted an odor of alcohol while talking with Grieser and that his eyes were bloodshot and glossy. He also had a flushed face and slurred speech.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence of alcohol.
His breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.154.
He was released to a sober driver.
Woman admits to theft
Anna M. Morris, 29, of 1444 County Road 1, was charged Sunday with theft after she admitted to pouring a can of alcoholic beverage into a fountain drink cup at Madriver Marathon, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., and paid the price for a fountain drink.
