Riverside’s girls basketball team found its groove early on against visiting Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday and picked up a 60-53 Northwest Central Conference win.
The Pirates are now 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the NWCC, while the Tigers fall to 3-8, 2-2.
Riverside got going in the first quarter with a 20-13 run. The Pirates were three points better (15-12) in the second quarter to build a 35-25 halftime cushion.
The third quarter saw Riverside duplicate the second quarter score with a 15-12 effort, increasing the Pirates’ lead to a 50-37 advantage.
Waynesfield-Goshen was able to take the fourth quarter 16-10, but it wasn’t enough.
Kirstin Schlumbohm poured in 21 points to power the Pirates. Lauryn Sanford had 16 points and Olivia Perk added nine points.
In junior varsity action, W-Goshen held off Riverside 38-31. Keianna Notestine led the Pirates with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Riverside travels to Botkins on Saturday for a non-league game.
