Riverside’s boys basketball team was able to survive some late miscues against visiting Triad on Saturday and hold on for a 64-63 non-league victory.
The Pirate have now won three straight and improve to 6-9 overall as the Cardinals drop to 1-10.
“Tonight was a tough battle,” said RHS head coach Seth Bodenmiller. “We were able to build a 15-point lead in the third quarter, but we started making some poor decisions with the ball. Give credit to Triad for continuing to fight, but it was still nice to come away with this one.”
Triad outscored Riverside in the first quarter 13-10, but the Pirates took the second quarter with a 23-15 run. That pushed Riverside out to a 33-28 halftime lead.
The Cardinals battled back in the third quarter with an 18-17 run, which left them trailing the Pirates 50-46. Triad continued to rally in the fourth quarter with a 17-14 run, but couldn’t get any closer and allowed Riverside to hang on for the win.
Kayden Burk led the scoring for the Pirates with 20 points, John Zumberger piled up 17 points with 10 rebounds and four assists, Landon Stewart had nine points with 10 rebounds and four assists and Ethan Jackson added eight points.
