Riverside’s offense stalled against host Houston on Tuesday as the Wildcats worked their way to a 45-34 non-league victory.
The Pirates fall to 7-13 on the season.
“I thought this was a very well contested ball game,” said RHS head boys coach Dean Sanford. “We played extremely well on the defensive end. Our kids did a really good job executing at times on offense tonight, but we just needed to be more efficient and more consistent as the game went on.”
Houston jumped on top of Riverside early with a 16-4 run in the first quarter. The Pirates did damage control in the second quarter with a 16-8 run, but still trailed 24-20 at halftime.
The Wildcats outscored the Pirates 12-6 in the third quarter to build a 36-26 advantage. Houston clipped Riverside 9-8 in the final quarter to round out the win.
Landon Kelsey led Riverside with nine points and Hunter Kreglow added seven points and six rebounds.
Houston won the junior varsity game 46-32. Kyle Knight paced the Pirates with 10 points and Lane Willoby had seven points.
Riverside hosts Jackson Center on Saturday for a non-league matchup.
