A total of seven area boys basketball players were recently named to the Northwest Central Conference all-league team.
Ridgemont led the way with four selections. Landon Newland headlined the Gophers with a first-team spot, while Mason Stuck was put on the second team. Earning honorable mention were Connor Martino and Jayden Streets.
For Riverside, John Zumberger garnered second-team honors. Landing spots on the honorable mention list were teammates Wade Auflick and Kaden Burk.
Lima Perry went undefeated to claim the NWCC championship this winter with an 8-0 mark. Upper Scioto Valley finished runner up at 7-1, while Ridgemont came in third at 6-2. Riverside was seventh with a 2-6 record.
The Commodores’ Matt Tabler was named coach of the year, while the Rams’ Quinn Sanders was tabbed the player of the year.
Making up the rest of the first-team squad were Upper Scioto Valley’s Sanders, Lima Perry’s Chazz Jackson and Braden Knight, Elgin’s Ryan Sheridan and Hardin Northern’s Nevin Robson.
Selected to the second team were Perry’s Will Knight, Upper Scioto Valley’s Connor Sanders, Waynesfield-Goshen’s Layton Campbell and Lehman Catholic’s Luke Frantz.
Named honorable mention were Elgin’s Evan Backensto and Justin Brown, Hardin Northern’s Ewan Martin and Luke Wilson, Lehman’s Justin Chapman and Brendan O’Leary, Perry’s Terry Riley and Jeffery Simpson, Upper Scioto Valley’s Jackson Rohrs and Evan Thompson and W-Goshen’s Jayden Elliott and Hyatt Kaufman.
