Ridgemont Board of Education members approved at their recent meeting a resolution to recognize girls’ swimming and diving as a varsity sport for the 2021-22 school year.
Jina Kearns also was approved as a volunteer coach for the team.
Indoor track was recognized and approved for participation during the 2021-22 school year as well.
The board also congratulated students on qualifying for the National FFA Convention from Oct. 27-30. Participants include: top 3 in the nation, Kevin Eckstein, Power Systems Division of the National AgriScience Fair; top 4 in the nation, Mykenzie Lance, Swine Placement Proficiency; top 4 in the nation, Madisen Jolliff, Service-Learning Proficiency.
Four graduates who also will earn their American FFA Degrees are: Levi Beiler, Jonathan Eckstein, Madisen Jolliff & Mekenzie Jolliff.
In buildings and grounds matters, members approved an agreement with The Kleingers Group for design professional services related to the running track improvements project, with services estimated at $13,300.
Nick Cox also applied for and receiving an Elementary School Grant from the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches to support teachers and coaches through a Field Day and build interest at the grassroots level.
In upcoming calendar items, a two-hour delay for teacher professional development is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Parent-teacher conferences for grades K-6 are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18.
There is no school Monday, Nov. 22, for grades pre-K-6 during parent-teacher conferences. Students in grades 7-12 will participate in job shadowing that day.
School also is not in session Tuesday, Nov. 23, for teacher professional development, and the remainder of the week is the district’s Thanksgiving break.
In other action, the board:
• accepted the resignation of Danette Weaver, junior high winter cheerleading, and Jessica Billenstain was extended a supplemental contract for the position;
• approved an agreement with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center for the 2021-2022 school year for a behavioral specialist;
• extended congratulations to NWCC Football Second Team honorees Landon Newland and Jevin Henderson and honorable mention to Mitch Jennings, Briley McGue and Carter Ruppright; NWCC Volleyball Second Team honoree Callie Cromer and honorable mention to Amanda Howland and Abi Smith; NWCC Golf Second Team honors to Hayden Oates; and
• expressed appreciation to the following donors: Ridgemont FFA Chapter donors Adam and Jessica Billenstein and mums donated to the fundraiser to offset student costs to attend the National FFA Convention; T-shirts donations from WenMac Repair, Keags Outdoor and Scott and Toni McKee for the Keegan McKee Memorial Volleyball Tournament; nurse’s clinic donors Soroptimist International Kenton and God’s Lifeline.
The next meeting is 5 p.m. Nov. 18 in the conference room.
