Richard Riel, 85, of West Liberty, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Youngstown on June 8, 1930, the son of the late Paul F. and Bertha Schmid Riel.
On Dec. 11, 1953, he married the former Betty Mae Grazier in Youngstown and she preceded him in death June 2, 2007.
He is survived by his four children, Rick D. Riel, Mark T. Riel, Christy L. Slaubaugh and Paul E. Riel; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a sales representative and was a long-time member of Grace Chapel in West Liberty.
Pastors Jeff Mixon and Russ Hamilton officiate a funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Grace Chapel, 500 Linden St., West Liberty, where visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 22, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty, with military honors by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
