Bureaucratic technicalities have forced the resignation of two long-serving members of the West Liberty Village Council, who have together combined for over 25 years’ experience.
Letters of resignation were accepted Monday in a regular meeting from council president Larry Lance and Becky Hamilton. Each cited issues with their health reimbursement accounts through the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System as their reason for resigning from council.
Mr. Lance has served on council for 14 years, and Ms. Hamilton served for 12 years.
Apparently, according to OPERS designation, Ms. Hamilton and Mr. Lance are labeled re-employed retirees, and that designation could have cost them access to their Health Reimbursement Accounts through the state of Ohio had they continued on village council.
