Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office met with a West Liberty area woman Tuesday on a report of a scam.
The victim told deputies she had received a letter in the mail from Publisher’s Clearing House, stating she had won.
Tuesday, she said she received a phone call from a male subject, who said she had won a new vehicle and $5,000 a week for life.
She said the man told her before she could receive her prizes, she would need to obtain a “Vanilla gift card” for $500 and provide him with the number from the gift card. He said once it cleared, the vehicle would be delivered.
After providing the caller with information from the first gift card, he advised her she would need to obtain another gift card. The victim said she realized it was a scam and told the caller she wouldn’t be sending any more money.
