An area Boy Scout has embarked on a multi-year project to honor Logan County veterans and other public servants through a new memorial site in Bellefontaine, and he is seeking participation from area residents to help recognize their friends and loved ones.
West Liberty-Salem High School sophomore Treven Marchal began the planning process for his Eagle Scout project last year after noticing veterans memorials in several local villages that were specific to residents of those communities. He observed the need for a site that would recognize individuals from any Logan County locale.
“I knew about the memorials in West Liberty and West Mansfield for veterans in those villages, and I thought, ‘Well, why not put together a site to recognize individuals from all of Logan County?

So I wanted to do something to honor veterans like them, and also to honor some of our local heroes — police, sheriff’s deputies, highway patrol, firefighters and EMTs.
“Everyone deserves the chance to be honored for the service they’ve done for their country and community.”
