Longtime Bellefontaine Police Department Detective Craig Comstock is honored in a roadside tribute this weekend that began Friday on the police department’s messaging board placed by the intersection of Ludlow Road and Lake Avenue near the entrances to Bellefontaine Elementary and Bellefontaine Middle School. The message reads “Always remember Detective Comstock EOW (End of watch) April 10, 2020.” He passed away unexpectedly one year ago today at his home, leaving behind his wife of nearly 20 years, Michele, and his children, Cole and Carisse. A nearly 18-year employee of the police department, the 1995 Benjamin Logan High School graduate worked as a narcotics detective for the last nine years of his tenure. He received the department’s Officer of the Year in 2013, and again as a posthumous honor in 2020. At the 2020 awards presentation, Police Chief Brandon Standley said as a skilled detective, “The measure of Craig’s work and the number of lives he saved will never be fully known.” (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
