Benjamin Logan’s Tayte Williamson did his homework in looking for a college to continue his track and cross country career.
Williamson looked closely at how his schools of interest developed the runners in their respective programs.
In the end, he selected Heidelberg University after being impressed with the way its runners have improved there.
“They currently have athletes that were good runners in high school but have improved so much under their system that they are now top runners in the nation,” said Williamson of Heidelberg, an NCAA Division III program that is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. “I hope to be able to make some of these same strides with my hard work and determination.”
Williamson also considered Lourdes University and Ohio Dominican University. He believes he can continue to develop his talents running for Heidelberg.
“My goals are to contribute at the college level and eventually become one of Heidelberg’s top runners,” he said. “My expectation at Heidelberg is that it will make me a faster runner and give me the opportunity to compete at nationals.”
Williamson helped the Ben Logan boys cross country team win the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division as a junior and senior.
He was eighth in the MR division at the league meet during his junior season and was seventh this past fall. He earned first-team all-CBC honors both years.
“Competing in college has not always been a goal of mine,” said Williamson. “It became a goal when colleges started contacting me to run for them and I realized it was realistic for me to run for a good college program.”
