Benjamin Logan’s volleyball team continued its magical season Tuesday, surviving a five-set battle with top-seeded Tippecanoe in a Division II sectional final at Tecumseh High School.
The second-seeded Raiders won the opening set 25-23, but fell in set two 25-11.
Ben Logan bounced back for a 25-19 win in the third set. However, the Red Devils stayed alive with a 25-20 win in set four.
That set the stage for the fifth and decisive set, which Ben Logan took 15-12 to advance to a district championship matchup against Hamilton Badin (24-1) on Saturday at Kettering Fairmont. Badin was the second-ranked Division II team in the final state coaches poll.
Tippecanoe suffered just one loss during the regular season which came against Bellbrook on Sept 10.
Ben Logan is now 23-2 and has won 13 matches in a row.
Senior setter Brielle Moorhouse did another stellar job directing the Ben Logan attack as she finished with 35 assists.
Makayla Williams was a force at the net with 15 kills. Mia Stahler paced the Raiders’ defense with 29 digs.
Tippecanoe finishes with a 23-2 record.
WL-S falls against Vikings
West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team could not get on track against Miami East in a Division III sectional final Tuesday.
The Vikings prevailed 25-17, 25-21, 25-19 to improve to 20-4 on the season.
WL-S finishes with a record of 19-6.
Bailey Poppe recorded her 1,000th career kill in the match for the Tigers. She had 13 kills on the night to go along with 10 digs and 10 assists.
Also for the Tigers, Londyn Loveless posted eight digs, 12 assists and was 14-14 serving with one ace, Leah Ropp had seven kills and 10 digs and was 13-13 serving with three aces, Naomi Cole tallied five kills, Chaley Wade had two kills and two digs, Olivia Wilcox tallied 13 digs and was 9-10 serving with one ace and Ava Poppe added two kills and 12 digs.
