Both BL squads win MR titles; Burrey breaks 40-year-old league 400 record
Benjamin Logan’s boys and girls track and field teams kept their Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division championship streaks alive with dominating performances Friday at Bellefontaine’s AcuSport Stadium.
The Ben Logan boys captured their 12th straight title by piling up 187 points.
Indian Lake was second with 120 points and Northwestern finished third with 85 points.
Ben Logan’s girls squad won its seventh straight Mad River title by scoring a whopping 194 points.
Second-place Indian Lake had 104 points and Northwestern took third with 87 points.
Burrey fuels title for Raider boys
Ben Logan senior Brady Burrey had a day he will never forget Friday.
Burrey was part of four CBC championships, with three individual titles and a relay crown.
Burrey sent shockwaves through AcuSport stadium in the 400, setting a new CBC record with a time of 49.64. He beat the previous best time of 49.70, set by Urbana star Jeff Rogan back in 1982.
Burrey also won the 100 (11.35) and won the 200 in a Mad River division record of 22.41.
In addition, Burrey was part of the winning 800 relay team along with Hunter Lattimer, Josh Tipton and Sam Whitten (1:33.57).
For his efforts, Burrey received the Mad River division MVP award.
Ben Logan had numerous other standout performances.
The Raiders’ 400 relay team of Lattimer, Tipton, Trevor Berry and Whitten was first (45.31) and the 1,600 relay of Lattimer, Ben Chamberlain, Yale Scheiderer and Tipton also placed first (3:38.46) Antonio Fahle added a CBC Mad River title in the high jump (5-8) for the Raiders, while Trevor Berry won the shot put (46-1).
Taking second for the BL boys were Yale Scheiderer in the 110 hurdles (16.66) and 300 hurdles (44.30), Tipton was in the 400 (52.96) and Mason Jackson in the shot put (42-6 3/4).
Taking third for the Raiders were Eric Hughes in the 800 (2:09.32) and Eli Rhodes in the 3,200 (11:17.62).
Finishing fourth for BL were Whitten in the 100 (11.93), Lattimer in the 300
hurdles (45.76) and Andy Hughes in the 800 (2:14.74).
Also for Ben Logan, Aaron Rhodes was fifth in the 3,200 (11:41.24) and Whitten took sixth in the 200 (24.25).
BL girls use balance to win MR
Ben Logan’s girls team showed off its depth and talent by piling up the wins Friday.
Finishing first for the Raiders were the 800 relay of Ezra McGue, Mya Burrey, LeVan and Sami Meeker (1:51.14), the 400 relay team of Meeker, Burrey, Macy Matthews and Makenna LeVan (52.46), the 1,600 relay of McGue, Mylee Boysel, Burrey and Georgia Bates (4:16.66), Bates in the 800 (2:28.99), Dani Widmark in the 3,200 (12:24.76), Jordan Sexstone in the discus (100-8) and Nora Elliott in the pole vault (8-6).
Taking second for the BL girls were Kate Gulick in the 100 hurdles (17.32), Isabel Henderson in the long jump (15-8 1/4) and Alexis Sutherly in the pole vault (8-0).
Finishing third for BL were Makenna Levan in the 100 (13.46), Mylee Boysel in the 400 (1:04.79), Lexi Archer in the 300 hurdles (52.82), Kayla Reeves in the 800 (2:30.64), Estella Wenger in the 3,200 (12:48.80), Burrey in the long jump (15-6 3/4) and Alanna Gibson in the discus (95-7).
McGue took fourth in the 400 (1:05.03), while finishing fifth were Maven Rhoades in the 100 hurdles (18.53), Kerry Copenhaver in the 300 hurdles (55.81) and Meeker in the 200 (27.89).
